Engineering Lead

Engineering, London, Full Time, £90,000 - £110,000 / year

An opportunity is available for an experienced Engineering Lead to take on the role of team- and work management to develop, deliver, and maintain platform improvements. You will participate in design reviews, recommend improvements, and create consensus through self-confidence, clear communication, and the technical skills to back your decisions. This will also include:
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in backend- and/or frontend programming languages coupled with experience with relevant libraries and frameworks.
  • Scalability and Performance Optimization: Experience with e-commerce platforms and developing and optimizing large-scale systems to handle high volumes of user interactions. 
  • System Architecture: Experience in designing and architecting scalable, modular, and maintainable systems. 
  • Leadership and Team Management: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers, providing technical guidance and driving the team toward project goals. Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improving processes to make Engineers as effective as possible
  • Planning and executing strategies that benefit the team and platform
  • Championing and maintaining quality standards and processes
  • Identifying technical solutions that adhere to / go beyond best practice
  • Conduct code reviews, and make technical contributions to product architecture
  • Get involved in solving bugs and delivering small features
  • Coordinating across departments to accomplish collaborative goals
  • Foster technical decision-making on the team, and make final decisions 
  • Discern engineering metrics and seek to improve them
  • Managing and supporting Engineering team members
  • Mentoring team members and supporting their continued growth
  • Maintaining team morale and ensuring their success


  • A minimum of 3+ years experience in a technical leadership role developing large-scale business-critical SaaS applications or e-commerce applications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with a variety of backend and frontend technologies and particularly exposure to PHP
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

The Interview Process

  • A video interview with the Talent Acquisition Partner. This should last no longer than 40 minutes.
  • A 60 minute technical interview with the Director of Engineering 
  • A final meeting with the CTO and Director of Engineering
