This month, we're delighted to introduce you to Eric Reddy, our Director of Sales Development in the USA. He joined in January 2020 and has been in Sales and Leadership for nearly 20 years with half spent working in professional sports and the other half in SaaS technology.

Eric's team has grown tremendously under his leadership and as such, we wanted to introduce you and let you learn a little more about him.

So, Eric, we'd love it if you could please tell us a little bit about yourself...

I'm based in Boston. I joined Reward Gateway nearly two years ago and I’m a two-time cancer survivor who is the proud dad to two cats and a dog. My wife and I met at university way back in the early 2000s.

I’m a big believer in failing fast, not taking things too seriously and treating people with respect. I prefer a good laugh over just about anything. I’m a big believer that most people (not everyone…but most) are trying their best to get through their day. Life happens to all of us and it is so important that we remember that people are people, not machines and that we are both capable of incredible feats and terrible disappointments.

If you can accept people for who they are, limitations and all, then you are not as likely to be let down when things don’t work out as desired.

Once someone gets the job, what's onboarding like?

It focuses a lot on meeting your new colleagues over just about anything else. We speak a lot internally about this culture we’ve built and in the first week having a new hire meet dozens of new people is so key to setting them up to be successful, especially if the person is remote.

What development opportunities can someone expect by joining your team?

As a Sales Development Rep (SDR), you are limited to your career development only by you goals for yourself. This role is your entry into a growing business and as we continue to scale opportunities exist throughout the business, including as a Sales Consultant (AE), a Customer Success Manager or as a member of our Marketing Team.

We often are looking for Developers, Product Managers and Finance professionals, so as you learn our business your skills might transfer well to another team. Each career development journey is different so once in the role for 6-12 months we can speak with more clarity about your future.

We keep investing in our US business and that means bringing on more people to help us hit our goals. We will be creating new positions and expanding existing teams and I’m so excited to see how the many new faces in the company will impact our growth!

Which of our values do you feel you live the most at work?

We Own It.

I would like to think I’m the first to raise my hand when I mess up. Sometimes it is not fun, but it hopefully shows my team that everyone will make mistakes and that it's ok to own those. It's also ok to smash your goals and be proud of that too, but when I miss them, I can’t look to pass the blame on someone else.

What kinda team culture can people expect?

We have a very warm and collegial team and we go out of our way not to hire jerks. We are very much a team and while we do have individual KPIs, the team supports each other on a daily basis and our leads are willing to put in the hours needed to make sure the team feels supported and recognized.

What's the Leadership style at RG?

I think we are hands-on when needed (especially early on to ensure our people are properly supported. But in general, we try to spend the time putting people in a place to be successful and get out of their way. There will always be an “open-door” policy with our leaders (from the CEO down to the SDR Team Lead) and we encourage our people to Speak Up whenever they feel like there is an opportunity to be better or to recognize someone who is going above-and-beyond.

How's the RG approach to flexible, hybrid working?

We believe in hiring adults and part of being an adult is knowing how to manage personal and professional responsibilities. Our approach to work works well for someone who has self-discipline and does not need constant oversight. We expect people will OWN IT and get their job done, no matter where they are sitting.

What advice would you give to someone interested in applying to RG?

Tell us about you… warts and all.

A lot of people have been fired, layed-off, quit because of toxic work situations or family matter or had the need to focus on their personal health over a job. We want great people at RG and sometimes greatness is complicated, so share your story and tell us why we are fools not to hire you.
